Every year we have the pleasure of working with Capital Area Intermediate Unit Transition Council to host the Tom Buskey Awards. This is such a fantastic event that “recognizes graduating seniors from local school districts for their hard work and dedication in overcoming personal challenges, leading towards successful transition to life after high school” (http://www.northernpolarbears.com/news.cfm?story=161447&school=1512). Tom Buskey passed away in 1997 but was an advocate to help students transition from the school life into the “real world.” This year was the 19th Tom Buskey Awards Luncheon. 220 guests attended and were served a buffet that had Italiano chicken, meatless lasagna, green beans, corn, and mashed potatoes.
Every year we host this event we are touched by the speakers and their hard work and dedication. This year was no different. After lunch the speaker did a fantastic job of speaking about the difficulties that he has overcome in life because of living with autism. I greatly enjoyed his talk about how we should all accept our differences and he started to wear a tie in school to show that he knew he was different and he wanted to stand out. Congratulations to all those who were nominated! We look forward to hosting the Tom Buskey Awards again next year, May 17, 2018.
"I just want to say how wonderful it was to have my wedding and reception at Harmony Hall. Karen, Jill and Lexi were all so great! They made planning so easy and stress free. The day was beautiful and everything I dreamed of. Thank you gentlemen so much!"
